The Musician

Jason Traweek is a composer and multi-instrumentalist with an emphasis on world percussion and flutes. With over 35 years of playing and experimenting in a diverse spectrum of musical styles, his preferred instruments include (but are not limited to) multiple forms of hand percussion, wood flutes, keyboards, and guitars. He often plays most or all of the instruments in his recordings. While this alone is often surprising to people, it may be just as stunning to know that starting at the age of 12 years old, when he first picked up his father’s old acoustic guitar, he has been entirely self-taught.

Over the decades, Jason has played with a number of groups, including the award-winning Matson Belle and his own early band Ear to Anon. Within the last 10 years, his musical styles and influences evolved as he delved into the world of improvised compositions with Spirit Lab - sophisticated, spontaneous, and fun music creation with accomplished musicians for rooms full of dancers. This way of creating music ushered in most of the jazz influences that can now be heard in his songwriting.

With the seeds from years of these sessions, Jason took advantage of the break in live music due to the pandemic to focus on recording again. This allowed him to produce his current solo works.

The Practices

For almost as long as he has explored music, Jason has also explored a wide scope of spiritual practices and ceremonies. Both shamanic and Buddhism based practices are an integral part of both his daily life and the events that he hosts. With training in the Hakomi method of therapy, Jason has a heart-centered approach to leading groups in spiritual and emotional exploration. For rooms full of dancers or for intimate healing sessions, Jason always creates and holds space with loving presence and integrity.
